Kids learn to folk dance

Second graders in Mrs. Meyer’s class at RP Connor have been studying multicultural songs and games since January and this week it was time to show their families all that they’ve been learning! The students performed various folk dances for their families and even invited them to join in on the fun. “It’s an informance,” says Meyer. “A chance for parents to experience music class the way their children do.”

Students wave scarves in music class

Music was in the making in Mrs. Meyer’s class this morning, as students learned about form, or how a musical composition is put together. To illustrate this in a tangible way, Meyer broke down each piece with props: scarves, shapes and instruments. As the beat changed, so did the props, which created a lively engaging atmosphere.

Kids during Rockland Read In

Not only is today the Friday before a break, but it’s also Valentine’s Day AND the Rockland Read In, an event dedicated to celebrating the joy of reading. The classrooms of Suffern Central were filled today with parents, administrators, police officers, Rotarians, Board of Education members and local business owners who generously gave their time to read to our students. Thank you to everyone who participated. With a snowy weekend ahead, it’s the perfect time to cozy up with a good book!

Girl displays her science research project.

Second graders in Ms. Bean's literacy enrichment class are hard at work on their presentations for next week's Curriculum Night at RP Connor. The topic: famous scientists! Each student chose a scientist—everyone from Marie Curie to Mike Brown to Jane Goodall to Jill Tarten—and then did a deep dive into their contributions to the world, organizing their findings in a Google Slides presentation.

RP Connor Celebrates Lunar New Year

To kick off Lunar New Year, (2025 is the Year of the Snake), RP Connor once again welcomed the Fire Mountain School, a martial arts studio in Northvale, NJ, who brought their "lions" by for a parade for our students. In between hugs and high fives with the lions, students also participated in a Lunar New Year tradition by "feeding" them hóngbāo, bright red envelopes that symbolize good luck!
